----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a handy little utility to change the color setup for Windows
during a session (even automatically between applications !!).
It supports up to 100 custom colors which can be modified using
Red/Green/Blue sliders, as well as up to 40 named color schemes
which can be set quickly. The user interface is very simple and
easy to use. Stores its configuration on disk. Requires at least
VGA and a mouse. Can also alter WIN.INI, and can import your
color schemes that you defined in the control panel if you are
running Windows Version 3.1.
Note: to prevent utter color chaos, only one instance of ColrMastr
is allowed.
Installation
------------
Simply copy COLRMAST.EXE into a convenient directory, and add it into
the Program Manager. COLRMAST.EXE will create a configuration file
in your windows root directory called COLRMAST.INI. For reasons
of speed, however, this file is binary and cannot be edited with a text
editor like the 'standard' .INI files.
Usage
-----
Start the program. You will notice that the window is divided into
four areas (from top to bottom):
- Buttons & Controls
- Custom Colors
- Screen Objects
- Color Working Area
You can drag colors from rectangle to rectangle, e.g. to make the active
border red, drag a red color from the custom color area, from the color
working area or from another object onto the active border object.
Likewise, you can move colors from objects into the color working area, or
the custom color area. Experiment to find out all the possiblities.
Buttons & Controls
------------------
[Set] Sets the Windows colors to the colors as set in the
Screen Objects area.
[Restore] Restores the Windows colors as they were when
ColrMastr was started. Does not affect any areas in
ColrMastr.
[Save] Saves ColrMastr configuration. Configuration is
also saved automatically when the program terminates.
[Help] Opens a small help window.
[x] Instant If checked, any changes in the Screen Objects are
instantly reflected in windows.
[x] Safety If checked, then you cannot change any custom colors
or color schemes, and you cannot write the current
Windows settings to WIN.INI (see 'System Menu',
below. Use this for a "read only" mode, that is,
if you want to USE schemes and custom colors prevent
accidental changes.
[x] Auto If checked, enables automatic color switching according
to the active window title. See 'Automatic Switching'
below.
[Define Scheme] Stores the current object colors as a color scheme.
[Remove Scheme] Removes the current scheme from the scheme list.
Custom Colors
-------------
The custom colors area is simply a color storage area. The contents of
this area is also saved in the ColrMastr configuration. Create custom
colors in the Color Working Area and drag them onto a field to store them,
or drag an existing color onto an object...etc. There are many
possibilities for dragging colors around - experiment !
Screen Objects
--------------
This is the list of objects that you can color in Windows. To change the
color of an object, simply drag a color onto it. Objects whose labels are
blue will use solid colors only. You can drag a dithered color onto these
objects, but it will be converted into a solid color.
Color Working Area
------------------
Use the three sliders to compose your own colors. The two color pads reflect
the dithered color (left) and its corresponding solid color (right). Note that
you can use/store either the dithered color by dragging it onto an object or
custom color field OR the solid color - the choice is yours. The values set
by the sliders always correspond to the dithered color. To find the slider
positions for a solid color, drag the solid color pad onto the dithered
color pad. Both pads will then show the same color, and the sliders will
reflect this.
Schemes
-------
You can save the current combination of colors in the Screen Objects area
under a name, thereby defining a Scheme. To recall a scheme, simply
choose its name from the drop down list. The colors in the Screen
Objects area will be set to the colors of the scheme, and, if
[x] Instant is checked, the actual Windows colors will be modified
instantly.
To change the colors of a scheme, recall the scheme, modify the
colors in the Screen Objects area, and use the [Define Scheme]
button to re-define a scheme with the same name.
Automatic Switching
-------------------
ColrMastr can change the desktop colors as you switch from one application
to the next. This way, you can have different color setups for various
applications ! How does it work ? Well, it's VERY simple:
All you have to do is create a color scheme for each application that you want
custom colored and name it the same as the first few letters of that
application's TITLE BAR (caption). For instance, for 'Wordperfect' you
can call the scheme 'Wordperfect'. If you just call it 'Word', then
that scheme will be used for windows such as 'Word', 'WordWizard',
'Words and Spelling' etc.
Then, check the Auto check box. ColrMastr will change color schemes
according to the current application window as follows:
It searches through the schemes for a (partial) match between a scheme
name and the current application title.
If the current application's title does NOT match any scheme name, then
ColrMastr searches for a scheme named 'Default', and uses it instead. If
no such scheme exists, it uses the color scheme that was in use when
ColrMastr was started.
Does this work for ColrMastr itself too ? Sure - just define a style
named ColrMastr ! Note, however, that in order to speed up things a bit,
the switching works a bit different if you are switching TO ColrMastr:
if a scheme (partially) matching 'ColrMastr' is found, then the color
scheme is changed to that scheme - otherwise, things stay just as they were
before you switched to ColrMastr. The same applies to any window named
'Task List', just to keep things running smoothly. So, to have a custom
task list coloring, you MUST define a scheme named 'Task List' - otherwise
ColrMastr will NOT change color schemes when you pop up the Task List.
The System Menu
---------------
The entry 'Write Windows settings to WIN.INI' in the system menu will
write the current WINDOWS COLOR SETUP to your WIN.INI file. Note
that this will NOT write the colors of the screen object fields
in the screen objects area, but rather the colors currently in
use by Windows. If [x] Safety is checked (see 'Buttons & Controls',
above), ColrMastr will not execute this command.
The entry 'Merge schemes from Control panel' in the system menu
(appears only if you are using Windows Version 3.1 or higher)
will merge all schemes that are defined in the control panel
color tool into the ColrMastr scheme list. Schemes that are
already defined that have the same name as a control panel
scheme will be replaced. If [x] Safety is checked (see
'Buttons & Controls', above), ColrMastr will not execute this
command.

Registration Information
Registering ColrMastr is easy:
Simply send the equivalent of US$ 20.00, plus the equivalent of
US$ 10.00 for shipping if you live outside of Europe.
IMPORTANT: please do NOT send any checks or money orders !
--------- It is very expensive for us to cash checks drawn on
foreign banks, or even international banks with their
headquarters outside of Switzerland (it would surely cost
more than US$ 20.00 in bank fees...). So please send cash
only, but be sure to place it within two sheets of paper
so that it is not readily visible from outside
the envelope.....thanks.
Address your envelope to

By registering you will be entitled to:
- a free upgrade to the next major release of ColrMastr, which I
am working on now (which will include some pretty neat features,
as well as any good suggestions that I receive), when it becomes
available.
